An honest analysis of Contasimple pricing in 2026, with the official rates verified on contasimple.com in June 2026. You will see all three plans (including the free lifetime Básico plan), their real cost with VAT, what each one includes, the limits almost nobody checks before signing up and a transparent comparison with three alternatives by profile.
Contasimple has been on the Spanish market for more than 15 years. Owned by the French group Cegid since 2022, it has over 20,000 freelancers (autónomos) and micro-businesses (Cegid's official figure). It positions itself as solid, certified low-cost software, with a permanent free plan that very few competitors offer. Its Trustpilot rating is 3.7/5. It is an honest option for anyone who just needs to comply with the tax authority at minimum cost, without proactive AI or hand-holding.
The 30-second verdict
Contasimple has a free lifetime Básico plan (12 documents a year, VeriFactu generation included) and two paid plans: Profesional €12.95/mo (€10.95/mo on annual billing) and Ultimate €19.95/mo (€15.95 on annual billing). All prices exclude VAT. It is one of the few tools with a genuine free plan and it is certified for VeriFactu.
Contasimple wins for freelancers at a very early stage with a minimal budget and low volume. But if your business grows or you want the software to anticipate tax problems instead of just recording them, there is an alternative that goes that way. Read on.
How much does Contasimple cost in 2026?
Contasimple has three plans, billable monthly or annually. With annual billing the per-month price drops. These are the official prices excluding VAT, verified on contasimple.com in June 2026:
| Plan | Annual billing (€/mo) | Monthly billing (€/mo) | Documents/year | Users |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Básico (free for life) | €0 | €0 | 12 | 1 |
| Profesional | €10.95 | €12.95 | 500 | 1 |
| Ultimate | €15.95 | €19.95 | Unlimited | 1 |
Prices excl. VAT, verified on contasimple.com in June 2026. Contasimple explicitly states "VAT not included". The Básico plan is permanently free, not a trial. The OCR and document digitization modules are sold separately and their price is not public.
One detail is worth being clear about from the start. The free Básico plan is real, not a trial, but its limit is 12 documents a year (1 a month on average), 5 products, 10 clients and 1 user. It covers issuing basic VeriFactu-compliant invoices, nothing more. As soon as your activity grows a little, it falls short and you have to move up to the Profesional plan. We break it down below.
What each plan includes
Básico (free for life). The permanent entry plan: basic invoicing, VeriFactu generation, 12 documents a year, 5 products, 10 clients and 1 user. For freelancers with very low volume, occasional freelancing or a side activity who just need to issue the odd invoice that complies with the anti-fraud law without paying anything.
Profesional (€10.95/mo on annual billing, €12.95 monthly). The plan that covers the active freelancer. It raises the limit to 500 documents a year and adds the tax forms (303, 130, 115...), bank reconciliation and electronic invoicing. It is the plan most freelancers end up needing as soon as they bill with any regularity.
Ultimate (€15.95/mo on annual billing, €19.95 monthly). The top plan: unlimited documents, products and batches. Built for anyone with higher billing volume who needs to remove the Profesional plan's caps. It costs less per month on annual billing than Profesional itself does on monthly billing, so it pays to compare carefully before choosing.
The real annualized cost with VAT
The website prices exclude VAT. Contasimple states it explicitly with a "VAT not included". To know what you really pay, you have to add the 21% and project it over a full year. This is the real annual cost of each plan, on annual and monthly billing:
| Plan | Annual billing (incl. VAT) | Monthly billing (incl. VAT) |
|---|---|---|
| Básico | €0/yr | €0/yr |
| Profesional | €158.99/yr | €188.03/yr |
| Ultimate | €231.59/yr | €289.67/yr |
21% VAT included. Annual billing saves versus monthly on both paid plans. The OCR and digitization modules are billed separately and are not part of these figures.
For an active freelancer, the reference plan is Profesional: €158.99/yr incl. VAT on annual billing. It is one of the lowest prices on the Spanish cloud market that includes tax forms and bank reconciliation. The free Básico plan covers just enough to issue the odd VeriFactu invoice, but its 12 documents a year leave it out of any regular activity.
For comparison, Facturaz costs €24/mo (€240/yr excl. VAT with 2 months free on annual billing, €290.40 incl. VAT). It is more expensive than Contasimple Profesional, but it is not the same product: Contasimple records what you do, while the Facturaz AI Coach analyzes your business and warns you before a tax problem happens. We develop this further below.

What is NOT included
These are the costs and limits worth being clear about before signing up.
- OCR and document digitization modules. Automatic expense capture and digitization are sold separately. Contasimple does not publish the price of these modules, so it pays to ask for it before doing the math.
- Documents capped per plan. 12 a year on the free Básico, 500 a year on Profesional, unlimited only on Ultimate. If you issue more than included, you have to move up a plan.
- Very tight Básico plan. On top of the 12 documents, the free plan limits you to 5 products, 10 clients and 1 user. It is enough to get started, but it falls short as soon as activity grows.
- No CRM, no advanced inventory, no projects, no HR. This is invoicing and basic accounting software. If you need any of these modules, look at Holded or an ERP.
- No proactive AI. Contasimple covers the essentials (invoicing, VeriFactu, tax forms) but does not anticipate VAT increases or spot deductions you overlooked. It is a tool that records, not one that advises.
Commitment and cancellation
Contasimple allows monthly or annual billing. There is no mandatory commitment beyond the period you contract, but on annual billing you do not get a pro-rata refund if you cancel before the 12 months are up. The Básico plan is free for life, so you can stay on it without paying as long as you fit within its limits. If you value paying month to month and cancelling whenever you want, Contasimple's monthly billing allows it, though at a higher per-month price than annual.
Who Contasimple is worth it for
Contasimple fits especially well for profiles where absolute cost is the priority:
- Freelancer at a very early stage with fewer than a couple of invoices a month. The free Básico plan covers VeriFactu without paying anything.
- Occasional freelancer or side activity who needs to comply with the AEAT without investing in software.
- Very tight budget where €12.95/mo versus €24/mo is the difference between being able to pay for the software or not.
- Freelancer who only needs the basics: invoicing, bank reconciliation and minimal tax forms, without advanced features.
- Anyone who wants to leave Excel behind and take the step to certified cloud software at the lowest possible cost.
Who Contasimple is NOT worth it for
Contasimple is not the optimal choice if your profile is away from its core proposition:
- Your business grows and will need features. The free plan falls short quickly (12 documents a year) and the jump to Profesional and then Ultimate arrives sooner than you expect. Better to start with a product that scales well.
- You want proactive AI that anticipates tax problems weeks before they happen. Contasimple records, but does not anticipate. For that, Facturaz is designed specifically.
- You need CRM, advanced inventory, projects or HR. They are not there. If you need any of these modules, look at Holded.
- You value automatic expense capture at no extra cost. Contasimple's OCR and digitization are paid modules on the side, with an unpublished price.
- You want to reduce or eliminate dependence on an accountant. Contasimple is an operational product, not a system that replaces the accountant. If you are after tax autonomy with AI, Facturaz goes that way.
Quick comparison with alternatives
Here is how Contasimple compares with three relevant alternatives for freelancers. To keep it fair, for each tool we use the plan recommended for an active freelancer, on annual billing.
| Criterion | Contasimple Profesional | Billin | Quipu Solution | Facturaz |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Recommended price (€/mo, annual, excl. VAT) | 10.95 | 12.50 | 25 | 24 |
| Real annual price (incl. VAT) | €158.99 | €181.50 | €363 | €290.40 (2 months free) |
| Cheapest plan | €0 (Básico for life) | €8/mo (no free plan) | €17 (Starter) | Free until 1st invoice |
| Real accounting | Yes (basic) | No (invoicing only) | Yes | Yes |
| VeriFactu-compliant | Yes | Yes | Yes | Yes |
| Proactive AI (anticipates problems) | No | No | No (reactive Genius AI) | Yes (AI Coach) |
| Designed for | Freelancer with minimal budget | Freelancer who only invoices | Service freelancer | Freelancer and SME 0-10 without accountant |
Prices verified in June 2026 on the official websites, all excl. VAT except where the incl. VAT calculation is shown. Billin no longer has a free plan (30-day trial). Each tool has a different ideal profile.
Alternatives by profile
Three options that cover the profiles where Contasimple is not the optimal choice.
Billin, for freelancers who only need invoicing
Billin, from €8/mo on the Básico plan (€6.60 on annual billing), Pro €15/mo (€12.50 annual) and Ilimitado €24/mo (€20 annual), all excl. VAT. It is part of TeamSystem. It is pure invoicing software: you issue professional invoices with VeriFactu compliance very quickly, but without its own accounting. Simpler than Contasimple, also more limited. Note that Billin no longer has a permanent free plan, only a 30-day trial. Choose it over Contasimple if you only need to invoice and have no need for accounting or tax forms.
Quipu, for service freelancers with a polished interface
Quipu, from €17/mo (€30/mo for the Solution plan, €25 on annual billing), prices excl. VAT. It is part of TeamSystem. Invoicing, treasury and accounting software with a much more modern interface than Contasimple, a (reactive) Genius AI assistant and a network of more than 1,000 partner firms. It is quite a bit more expensive than Contasimple (€30/mo for Solution versus €12.95 for Profesional), but it improves the user experience and the quality of service. Choose it over Contasimple if you value a refined interface and do not mind paying more for it.
Facturaz, for freelancers and SMEs 0-10 who want proactive AI
Facturaz, free until your first invoice and €24/mo after that. An AI CFO for freelancers and businesses with up to 10 employees. Here is the underlying contrast with Contasimple: the two products serve opposite visions of what a freelancer needs.
Contasimple says: we give you the minimum to comply with the tax authority at the lowest possible price. €12.95/mo and you are done.
Facturaz says: your goal is not just to comply. It is for your taxes to run on their own, with an AI that anticipates problems before they happen. You invoice, Facturaz does the accounting, prepares the forms and files them with the tax authority once you confirm.
Here is the concrete difference. Contasimple records what you do. Facturaz tells you what to do. The AI Coach spots a deduction you overlooked, like equipment bought in March, a client lunch in April or professional training in May. Three expenses that can mean hundreds of euros of recovered IRPF and VAT that you were about to leave on the table. And you do not need to know what a modelo 303 is or which box the input VAT goes in: the AI chat answers your questions 24/7 in plain language, with no accounting jargon.
The cost calculation:
| Real annual cost (incl. VAT) | Contasimple Profesional | Facturaz |
|---|---|---|
| Software | €158.99 | €290.40 (2 months free) |
| Proactive AI included | No | Yes (AI Coach) |
| Expense capture | Paid module on the side | Included |
| Annual difference | - | +€131/yr |
The financial difference is real: Facturaz costs around €131 a year more than Contasimple Profesional. But the two products do not compete for the same customer. Contasimple serves the absolute-minimum-budget profile. Facturaz serves the maximum-value-per-euro profile, where the AI Coach spotting a single deduction a year already pays back that difference many times over.
Honest about limitations: Facturaz is a new product (2025), it only covers common territory (national AEAT), without TicketBAI and it has no advanced inventory module or a human tax mentor. If you operate in the Basque Country or need a full ERP, Facturaz is not your option. For the common-territory freelancer and SME 0-10 who wants tax autonomy with AI, it is.

Verdict: is Contasimple worth the price?
The verdict in one sentence
Contasimple is the right option for early-stage freelancers with a minimal budget who just need to comply with VeriFactu without investing. The Básico plan is free for life (12 documents a year) and Profesional costs €12.95/mo (€158.99/yr incl. VAT), one of the lowest prices on the certified Spanish cloud market. But it does not include proactive AI, its expense capture is a paid module on the side and the free plan falls short quickly.
Price rating: 5/5 for its ideal profile · Transparency: good (it states that VAT is separate) · Genuine free plan: yes · Proactive AI: no
Contasimple is not a bad option. For its ideal profile, the early-stage freelancer with a minimal budget who just needs to comply with the tax authority, its prices are hard to beat and the free Básico plan adds value that few competitors offer. The critical point is what happens when you grow: the free plan runs out fast and the product records but does not anticipate. If that premise matches your situation, Contasimple wins. If your goal is to optimize your taxes and have the software work for you, Facturaz goes that way with an AI Coach that anticipates problems instead of just recording them. They do not compete for the same customer, but for two different ways of running a freelancer's finances in 2026.
Next step
If you only issue a couple of invoices a month and want to comply with VeriFactu without investing, Contasimple's free Básico plan is hard to beat. If your business grows and you want software that scales with you with proactive AI included, you can start free with Facturaz until your first invoice, no card.
